Hiorne Tower, Arundel

Philip Carter

This tower or 'folly' is situated approximately half a mile to the NW of Arundel Castle, on a steep hill overshadowing Swanbourne Lake.
It is a tall triangular structure with an octagonal turret at each corner. Built by Rodger de Montgomery, its sturdy construction has withstood the elements since 1787. If you were to find yourself stranded on the hill on a cold winters night it may not be a place you would seek shelter, as locals will tell you there is a resident ghost.
